Classroom Snapshots: Makedo Tutorial Videos Created by Kids
"My name is Michael Palagi and I am a Kindergarten/Year 1 teacher at an IB PYP school in Bangkok, Thailand. We like to give students Makedo tools and cardboard without giving directions. We try to give our students as much agency and take control of their learning in as many ways as possible.
We have had an influx of students from other classes coming into our learning space to see our Makedo projects and saw this as an opportunity to share our experiences with others, so over two days we created tutorial videos to help teach others how to use Makedo. When making the tutorial videos we connected to a writers workshops, created the content with our audience in mind, and planned our ideas that were being recorded.

The aim was to make the learning holistic and link design learning in a variety of situations e.g. a writer’s workshop. The students gathered all the important tips for how to use the scru-driver and saw.
A highlight of making the tutorial videos was acknowledging that the students have gained a lot of new knowledge, and that there are ways we can communicate and share their learning with others. They are so happy when someone new to Makedo comes into the space so they can teach them some new tips to spark big ideas through their videos!"
